The Personal Fonts Maker AGA Color Extensions (PFM2) are now being
bundled with the original Personal Fonts Maker (PFM). PFM2 should
not be considered a commercial product in itself. Rather, it is the
result of Personal Paint development applied to fonts. Our
programming methodologies are flexible enough to allow us to include
this sample of paint software at no extra cost with the Personal
Fonts Maker. Personal Paint remains the reference for our paint and
image processing software and documentation.
With PFM2, features like 256 colors, unlimited bitmap size and
powerful painting tools are added to the basic functions like black
and white font editing, macros, different character sets and printer
download of the PFM program.
Font-oriented features of PFM2, like the Spacing, Kerning, XSize and
Reference Point gadgets are explained in depth in the PFM
documentation. If you would like to enjoy a more detailed
explanation of the painting tools, please refer to the manual which
accompanies Personal Paint.
A few menu items and tools of PFM2 are new, or differ slightly from
what is explained in the Personal Fonts Maker and Personal Paint
documentation:
The Color Average Resize option is now in Settings/Stretch/Color
Average. This is very useful to create an anti-aliased font: just
load an Amiga (vector) font, add intermediate shades of gray or
color to the palette and then reduce the font (Settings/Font Format
menu). The more colors you add, the better the result, and the
smaller you can make the font with respect to the original.
The Dynamic View option is activated from the Settings menu.
The box to the left of the Grid Color tool indicates whether the
font has a remappable foreground color. Some applications can change
this color to vary the font's appearance in a particular
environment. To define the color, just click on the box and then
pick a color from the palette. To disable this feature, click on the
box and then click anywhere outside the palette.
The Reverse Direction and Flip Font items in the Attributes Menu
are useful when working with right-to-left fonts. The first option
only changes the spacing and kerning information, while the second
one flips the character images.
PFM2 will try to use the Amiga DataTypes loaders if it cannot
recognize an image format. Color quantization of HAM, HAM-8, IFF-24
and PCX-24 image files is now a standard feature.
The first disk of the Personal Fonts Maker package is no longer
bootable. To use the Color Extensions, version 2 or higher of the
Amiga operating system is required.
The second disk of the PFM set now contains archives of the original
PFM data files. The archives can be expanded into two separate disks
by double-clicking on the PFM_2->DF0 / PFM_3->DF0 icons. The
InstallPFM procedure accepts both the archived and the expanded
version of the data. It does so by checking which disk is used as
the second disk during installation. It also accepts the very first
three-disk versions of the Personal Fonts Maker.
Personal Paint and the Personal Fonts Maker Color Extensions
normally share the same Personal.font for their user interface. From
time to time, the font itself is upgraded. If you have both programs
installed, and experience difficulties because one of the two
programs expects an older version of the font, just remove the font
from your FONTS: directory. All versions of Personal Paint and PFM2
also search for the font in their local directories, where the font
is normally copied during automatic installation.
The DirDiff utility has been included in PFM_Tools. Instructions are
displayed when DirDiff is executed from the Amiga Shell.

Cloanto Product Presentation: Personal Paint
Personal Paint is a powerful and intuitive paint and image
processing package. It fully exploits all generations of Amiga
computers and operating systems - from the Original to the Advanced
Amiga Architecture (up to 256 colors and a 24-bit palette),
accelerator cards (including FPU and cache-RAM) and graphics boards
(Display Database and Blitter compatible).
It offers sophisticated image processing functions: programmable
effects (like emboss, sharpen, blur etc.), "intelligent" color
reduction and remapping, palette merge, different file formats (IFF,
PCX, GIF, encrypted, C source code etc.)
And much, much more: up to nine brushes, two different working
environments, text editor, color fonts, Amiga clipboard (for text
and images), PostScript driver (with data compression, color
printing and separation), customizable user interface with stereo
sound effects, screen grabber... plus a disk packed with 256-color
images for all Amiga models.
1 Mbyte RAM, 1 disk drive required; 1 Mbyte of Chip RAM recommended
Cloanto Product Presentation: Personal Write
Personal Write is an extremely fast word processor packed with
original capabilities. It fully exploits unique Amiga
characteristics like windows and multitasking. Personal Write does
not limit the number of text windows which can be displayed at the
same time. A built-in spooler can print even the longest texts in
the background, while the program is used to do other work. Personal
Write can encrypt confidential documents, which become unreadable to
unauthorized users, and save disk space by compressing texts.
Personal Write is also a powerful tool for converting texts into
different formats. It can load and save texts combining more than 25
character sets of the most widely used computers. Control codes can
be added or removed, as required by desktop publishing programs,
Amiga system functions or other hardware and software environments.
Thousands of combinations of printer settings can be selected to
make the best use of features like the PostScript driver, the
multistrike print mode, support for automatic justification with
proportional characters and Personal Fonts Maker fonts.
Alphanumerical labels can be used in the text for mail merge or to
reorganize data. Pictures can be loaded and printed. Keyboard
shortcuts and the texts which are displayed can be redefined to
personalize the user interface (which includes stereo sound
effects). An automatic hard disk installation procedure can be
selected with the mouse.
512 Kbytes of RAM, 1 disk drive required;
1 Mbyte of RAM recommended
